A good SEO oriented domain name should be short not more than 10 characters for easy remembrance, should have an easy to rank unsaturated keyword in the domain name that people are searching for and also relates to what your site is all about.
With regards to hosting, I believe that if your website is hosted on the same server with several prominent websites, that could help boost your ranking. But you can still rank your website without any of these.
